FAQ
- What is Vimshottari Dasha?
- Vimshottari Dasha is the most-used planetary period system in Vedic astrology. It divides life into 9 major periods (mahadashas) across 120 years, starting from the lord of your birth nakshatra. Each mahadasha brings a distinct life chapter coloured by the ruling graha.
- How long does each mahadasha last?
- Sun: 6 years, Moon: 10, Mars: 7, Rahu: 18, Jupiter: 16, Saturn: 19, Mercury: 17, Ketu: 7, Venus: 20. Total = 120 years. Each mahadasha is further divided into 9 antardashas proportionally.
- How is my first mahadasha determined?
- Your FIRST mahadasha is the lord of the nakshatra your Moon occupied at birth. The duration of that first mahadasha is reduced proportionally by how far the Moon had already moved through that nakshatra at the moment of birth.
- What is the difference between mahadasha and antardasha?
- Mahadasha is the major period (years-long). Antardasha is the sub-period inside it (months or years). Pratyantar dasha is the sub-sub-period (weeks). Together they form increasingly fine-grained timing of events.
- Which dasha is the best?
- No dasha is universally "best". Each graha's dasha delivers results based on its placement in YOUR chart. Jupiter mahadasha brings dharmic expansion; Venus brings relationships and wealth; Saturn brings discipline and slow rewards; Rahu brings unconventional rises. Strength matters more than identity.
- When does my current dasha end?
- This calculator shows exact start/end dates for every period, including your current mahadasha and antardasha. Click the current period to see the classical analysis and remedies for the exact sub-period you're in.
